CW Gives Early Renewal to Several Shows

In a surprisingly early announcement, the CW has given a green light for an 8th season for “Smallville”. This announcement comes after the long running show was rushed back into production following the end of the writer’s strike in order to extend the show‘s shortened 7th season. “Smallville”, which tells the story of Clark Kent before he became Superman, has enjoyed a ratings resurgence during it’s last two seasons and the CW seems confident that this resurgence will continue. In addition to “Smallville”, the CW also announced new seasons for “Supernatural”, “Gossip Girl”, “One Tree Hill”, “Everybody Hates Chris” and “America’s Next Top Model”.
It remains to be seen whether “Smallville” cast members Kristin Kreuk (Lana Lang), Allison Mack (Chloe Sullivan) and Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) will be returning for season 8. All three actors were only under contract through season 7. Tom Welling (Clark Kent) , John Glover (Lionel Luthor), Erica Durance (Lois Lane), Aaron Ashmore (Jimmy Olsen) and Laura Vandervoort (Kara) are already signed for an 8th season.
